  • Preparing and running half-yearly valuation committees.
  • Documenting the methods and assumptions used.
  • Working with statutory auditors and valuers.

NAV and performance

  • Overseeing and reviewing half-yearly net asset values.
  • Tracking IRR and multiples, TVPI and DPI, fund by fund.
  • Consistency checks across portfolio, accounts and reporting.

Frequently asked questions

What is the NAV of a private equity fund?
The NAV, or net asset value, is the value of the fund’s net assets: its holdings at their valuation, its cash and other assets, less its liabilities. It is most often calculated every half-year, as set by the fund’s documentation.
What is a valuation committee?
The body that reviews and approves the valuations of holdings proposed by the investment team, before they feed into the NAV. It keeps methods consistent over time and decisions traceable.
What is the difference between TVPI and DPI?
DPI compares the distributions already paid to investors with the capital they have paid in. TVPI adds the residual value of the portfolio. The first measures what the fund has returned, the second the total value created.
